چکیده

Abstract An integrated hydrochemical and geophysical study of the saline paleo-water uprising into alluvial aquifer Oltrepò Pavese plain sector (Po Plain, northern Italy) is presented. This involved analysis groundwater, assessment well logs, one-, two- three-dimensional electrical surveys. The studied area was selected for its characteristic hydrogeological setting. strongly conditioned by presence a buried tectonic discontinuity along which waters are mainly distributed. These rise discontinuities in bedrock flow overlying aquifer. Contamination from not spatially vertically homogeneous within spatial distribution Na–Cl suggests existence plumes highly mineralized that locally reach aquifer, diffuse mix with freshwaters. show dilution during upward migration, due to mixing shallow fresh groundwater. Highly groundwater identified even at very depth correspondence each plume. On other hand, there lower degree contamination those sectors further away structural this lesser generally only involves deeper parts

Evaluation of Geophysical methods for identifying hidden Quaternary faults in alluvial sediments (case study: Chitgar Park)

Abstract In this research, Geophysical methods Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) and Geoelectric have been used to detect hidden Quaternary faults in alluvial sediments located southwest of Chitgar Forest Park (District 22 of Tehran). The study of profiles (GPR) identified areas such as fault. The results obtained from two Geoelectric profiles indicate that there are two zones with low electrical...

Natural arsenic contamination of Holocene alluvial aquifers by linked tectonic, weathering, and microbial processes

[1] Linked tectonic, geochemical, and biologic processes lead to natural arsenic contamination of groundwater in Holocene alluvial aquifers, which are the main threat to human health around the world. These groundwaters are commonly found a long distance from their ultimate source of arsenic, where chemical weathering of As-bearing minerals occurs. We propose a ‘‘GBH-As’’ model that ties togeth...

CO2 Storage in Saline Aquifers

CO2 Storage in Saline Aquifers — Saline aquifers represent a promising way for CO2 sequestration. Storage capacities of saline aquifers are very important around the world. The Sleipner site in the North Sea is currently the single case world-wide of CO2 storage in a saline aquifer. A general review is given on the specific risks for CO2 storage in saline aquifer. The regional distribution of C...

Case studies of groundwater – surface water interactions and scale relationships in small alluvial aquifers

An alluvial aquifer can be described as a groundwater system, generally unconfined, that is hosted in laterally discontinuous layers of gravel, sand, silt and clay, deposited by a river in a river channel, banks or flood plain. In semi-arid regions, streams that are associated with alluvial aquifers tend to vary from discharge water bodies in the dry season, to recharge water bodies during cert...
